Maria GoJa – Between Worlds

Maria GoJa is a Vocalist, Composer and Producer from Berlin. After learning classical singing, piano and violin in early years, she continued her musical journey as a solo singer for chanson, musical, Jazz and Popmusic. Connected to her classical roots, GoJas music is characterisitic for the contrast between delicate and rough, crossing of genre borders and sense for transparency, atmosphere and minimalism. To challenge her musical comfort zone with different sound worlds, GoJa studied music from various countries.

Following her interest in various musical environments, she studied Musicethnology at University, focussing on the human voice in different musical cultures. Amongst others she learned with Indian Singer Ashish Sankrityayan, studied Mongolian singing styles, South Korean shamanism and African music. Connecting cultures through the medium music is a characteristic of her projects since then. Intense intercultural experiences inspired her to compose the soundtrack albums of the theater pieces “Sometimes at Night" and "MissFire.“

Maria GoJa made her first steps on stage singing Chanson, Jazz and her own songs. In 2003 she became Soloist for Berliner Solistenchor, later for the experimental Electro-Acoustic Pop-Duo Once I had a Pony with Andreas Hirche. In 2010 she joined the vocal trio Seven Seasons. Since 2013 she is also Solosinger for Tanger Trio & Ensemble Mondaine and background singer for Gemma Ray. Over the years she developed techniques that allow her to move freely between different singing styles including classical, popmusic and experimental music.

She released to Albums based on Soundtracks for theater plays she composed. Currently GoJa is working on her first Solo Album. Her single Uncertainty released in 2016 is the first song of this new project.
